What is Detoxification?

Detoxification is the process of removing the addictive substance from the physical body. While it usually is not a life-threatening experience, uncomfortable physical systems can manifest in a variety of ways while the body is being weaned.

Some people may choose to “cold turkey” this process at home and allow the substance to work its way out of the system. Without support or a defined recovery plan, however, the chances of success are slim. A skilled certified interventionist will act as a liaison to help family and friends gather enough strength and courage to confront the addicted person in love. When done successfully, this usually leads to the commitment of a detoxification program followed by a long-term treatment plan. The success rate of an intervention is very high, and should be considered if the destruction of the addiction has reached a peak.
